High Data Rate MIMO

We propose a new class of transceivers operating over large bandwidths on the order of 10 GHz using ultra-wideband phased arrays. Specifically, a novel coding approach that combines frequency and code multiplexing is proposed. This is essential for secure communications and interference mitigation and for accessing such large bandwidths. Equally important is power reduction. For the latter, a low power on-site coding beamforming is proposed to reduce power requirements for the digitizers by a factor of 10 to 32. In this paper, we present a description of the proposed high data system. Also, a noise analysis is conducted to assess the impact of coding on the system’s noise floor. Preliminary results show minimal degradation using orthogonal Walsh-Hadamard codes with ideal filters and a minimum digitizer resolution of 5 bits.
